Ask and you shall (sometimes) receive

So it was my birthday yesterday, and my friend was kind enough to buy us tickets in a swanky cinema to watch the new Spider-man movie.

There were 2 options for seating. One was downstairs (deluxe) and the other was upstairs (standard). I didn't let him buy the deluxe ones because I didn't think they were worth it at all.

We got to our seats, and after watching a few ads, I looked down and realised that downstairs' deluxe section was pretty much completely empty.

I got an idea. I turned to my friend and said, "Dude, I bet we could easily sneak downstairs or at least ask the desk if we can sit there for free". He shrugged and said sure.

I normally would have shut the idea down completely (I think it's the people-pleaser in me afraid of asking for free stuff), but since it was my birthday I said fuck it, got up, and went to go ask.

The lady at the desk was extremely kind and eager to help, but after 10 minutes of her efforts, she gave me a defeated look and told me that she couldn't give me the deluxe tickets for free. I thanked her anyway, and we headed back up to catch the movie.

You're probably thinking that I walked back up in utter disappointment, but I actually had a huge smile on my face. I was so happy that I asked, because I knew that if I didn't, I'd be spending the rest of the movie (and journey home) wishing I did. And that's the last thing I would want to feel on my own birthday.
