I only do 4 things in my room
I moved into a new apartment this week! It's been over 4 years since I've had to move, so this is a pretty big deal for me.
By far my favourite thing about my new place is the fact that I have my own room. I missed having a space of my own. In my previous place, I had to work from the living room, and I found it extremely hard to concentrate on anything - there were just too many distractions around.
So to combat this problem, I decided that for my new place I would be super intentional with what I did in it. I boiled it down to only 4 things:
- Writing
- Reading
- Taking coaching calls
- Sleeping
Everything else was relegated to the living room:
- Playing guitar
- Listening to music
- Watching movies & TV
- Socialising with friends
- Eating
- Calling a friend
- Boring admin (personal and work)
- Doomscrolling
- Napping
Being intentional with how I use my space has made such a huge difference in my mental wellbeing and productivity. It's been much easier for me to sit down and write, as well as fall asleep faster.
I don't have anything else in the room to distract me from writing or doing work. And if I don't feel like working, I can either read a book, or stare at the wall - both low stimulation activities that won't fry my brain any more than I already have.
