I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. Ok, who am I kidding, I'm a massive perfectionist. I won't even buy a chair without going into a 6-day rabbit hole into the history of sitting, and how ancient Japanese people used to sit on the floor with 'zabuton' and 'zafus' (I now own a 100% hemp buckwheat-filled floor zafu pillow).

My tendency for perfectionism has some advantages, but it's most often a complete waste of time and energy. I just spend way too much time researching vs actually doing.

So to combat this, I've tried skipping the research process entirely.

I did this most recently when I wanted to try the sport, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Usually when I'm interested in a thing, I'd fire up my laptop and watch every video I can get my eyes on. But instead of doing that, I went online, found a gym near me, and booked a one-off session.

I completed it today, and it's safe to say that I love it and I'll definitely be back for more sessions. No amount of video watching could have made me experience an actual BJJ session.
