showing up counts

Sometimes when I sit down to work, I find it very very difficult to concentrate. Maybe I had bad sleep the night before, or drank too much alcohol, or have a distracting worry on my mind (or whatever the other excuses are).

My thoughts seem to jump from one idea to the next, and I can't seem to focus on one thing for more than 3 minutes.

And it's easy to beat myself up when I know I could be performing better. The problem with beating myself up is that I tend to throw myself a pity party and I give myself an excuse to go do something else. I think it comes from an all-or-nothing mindset.

This is not productive, at all.

The more productive mindset is this: making 1% of progress on something is better than 0%. And a surefire way to make 0% of progress on something is to NOT show up, sit down, and try.

A year from now, who would you rather bet on: The guy who shows up every day even when they're tired... Or the talented guy who shows up only when he feels like it?

I know who I'm betting on.
